  1. Elysia Mpressor Plugin

Haven`t used the hardware but try it on masterbuss in gr-mode around 1.5-3 db. Gives the mix a really nice beefy low end without getting boomy and glues the mix nicely. The first plugcompr, together with the Split Compr, that actualy makes the mix sound a little bigger and wider not just louder.

I have had the X-compr for a month and now the Elysia. A bit boring so far for individual tracks or busses, but on masterbuss it gives the juicy low end I`ve only heard with analog compressor - untill today. You can make things pump like crazy but I`ll rather use CLA 1176 for that. Man, the plug-world is really moving in lightning speed these days!! For me it started with Nebual EQs, Waves CLA, UAD EMT, X-verb, Algortihmix Split, K-Stereo and Softtube. Steven slate and Lexicon still to come, not to mention starting to mix ITB at 96khz with AlexB consoles for Nebula (API, Neve, SSL) And this have happened, what, the last 6 months or so?

The only thing added to one of my racks lately is the Fractal FX. I don't think its overpriced. It's what, exactly the same price as the CL-1B?

I think I'd be just as satisfied parting with my money for this as I was for the Tubetech. I can't really imagine a deeper or more unique compressor plugin. I've been messing around with this all day for 2 days. It has a somewhat steep learning curve for a compressor, but it's worth the effort. To me, so far, it's one of the most analog-sounding plugins I've tried. It doesn't sound like tubes obviously and it shouldn't, so it's a bit unfair to want it to sound like the CL-1B.

But when you push the compressor and make use of the make-up gain, it definitely saturates in an analog way, which is a great supplement to all of its functions. I'm very impressed! First the the Split gives you a LOT of options, it can be very complex and advanced. But funny enough very easy too. I`m using it mostly for limiting to get things loud and big with class I`ve made 3-4 presets that work almost every time. That`s what makes complex and easy at the same time. Not that it has some kind of sweet spot but I`ve just found a setting that works for limiting.

Punch up flat or dull drum tracks with the innovative sounds and controls of the elysia• mpressor Plug-In. In this week's Friday Free Plug-in, we are featuring the Elysia Niveau filter from Plugin Alliance. Filter From the Mpressor For Free.

Replaced my workhorse TC6k MD4. The latency is about a half a day and it takes massive amounts of CPU compared to other plugs. But it uses the CPU cycles doing really good stuff to audio. But todays OC I7 920 handles it nicely. Elysia gives a very nice (dear I say analog?) low bottom - juicy but not boomy. Something I`ve missed with all plugcompr I`ve tried.

I can`t get the 7-8 db extra volume or loudness and still sound uncompressed as the Split, but they fill each other gaps nicely. But this is my first day with the Elysia so be awareheh This is for masterbuss btw. A good approach with the mPressor is setting it to something like 2:1, attack at 100ms, release to minimum, pull threshold down until everything is smashed to bits. Then raise the release until you get a nice groove going, then activate the gain reduction limiter and reduce compression back to acceptable levels. Make up the gain with the 'gain' pot and voila, you should have around 6db of compression going that is extremely punchy and tight. Another approach, when using it on heavy beats, is to just patch the bass drum into the sidechain and compress the whole drum stem just from that - works excellently on 4/4 base genres. Have a look at the Duende X-Comp for an alternative to the Splitcomp.

While we're at it, the X-Eq is also very good. Another easily underestimated feature of the mPressor is the Filter.

Basically it.kind of. operates like a frequency crossover, like splitting the audio into a low and a high band, the frequency control determining the crossover frequency, and the level control crossfading between the two; values below 50% boost the low band, values above 50% boost the high band while attenuating the other band, respectively. I'm saying 'like' because I'm not entirely sure.how. the filter technically operates, but the results behave as in such a circuit. This allows to adjust the spectral balance, or 'tone', of the signal in a simple yet effective way.

Makes it pretty easy to drop some bass from a track that doesn't need it, or to shift the focus on the bottom end etc. Also makes a nice coloring tool with the frequency control set to minimum and the gain in the top half; the treble boost can sound extremely cool. Interestingly the plug-in does come pretty close to even this particular behavior of the hardware. Ah, the mPressor;-). This modeled noise floor thing?

Why is it modeled? Do people really want that? Sorry for the OT question. The explanation for this is quite easy: When we received the first beta version from brainworx, we were amazed by how good it was already - but there was obviously something missing. Especially drums did not fully sound as they were supposed to.

The solution was to add exactly the same amount of noise floor that the hardware has (we are not talking about huge loads of it, by the way). After it had been integrated, the plug just sounded right, and therefore it became a fixed part of the virtual mpressor. All the best, Dominik.

The mpressor plugin is the as close as it can get emulation of our famous creative compressor. Its all discrete circuitry and its special character have been translated into software in all the painstaking details by the specialists from Brainworx. The result is an outstanding universal compressor as well as an inspiring dynamic effects machine which will significantly enhance the potentials of your host software. The plugin has all the great functions of the hardware which can be combined in many ways: Auto Fast for attack makes life easy even on longer attack settings. The Anti Log function offers an alternative release curve that can be engaged for instant pumping effects.

In addition to standard ratios, the mpressor also provides negative values. Combine this with its extremely fast attack times, and you will be able to create completely new signal envelopes. The Gain Reduction Limiter regulates the virtual control voltage and keeps even the most extreme settings under control – completely independent from the threshold and ratio settings. The additional filter is a perfect fit for changing the compressed signal in its sound character. The possibility to control the mpressor by an external sidechain input to get things grooving makes for further flexibility.

Features. True Emulation: The compression behavior and the sound character of the hardware have been recreated in a complex process to match the analog model as close as possible.

Oversampling: In order to achieve the best results also on lower sample rates, the mpressor plugin uses an increased internal resolution. Mousewheel Support: Setting parameters with the mouse can be pretty annoying – for this reason the controllers of the mpressor can be moved with the mouse wheel easily. Auto Fast: Originally developed for the alpha compressor, this switchable semi automation ensures a perfect attack on the basis of the value set by the user. Anti Log: This alternative characteristic of the release curve follows an antilogarithmic course instead of the standard linear progress and produces a much more audible result.

Negative Ratios: The characteristic curve bends and goes back down! Heavy pumping, backward sounds, etc. – perfect for very cool compression effects. Audio Filter: The mpressor plugin of course also features another popular function of the hardware version: the easy yet very flexible Niveau Filter.

External Sidechain: You want to create frequency dependent compression or have it accented by the groove? The sidechain function makes it all possible!. Gain Reduction Limiter: This novel limiter is not placed in the audio path as usually, but restricts the virtual control voltage of the plugin instead. Share your knowledge of this product.
