Despite the small size, this is the full installer. It includes the tool in English and German (selectable during installation).

Tldr; don't assume everything in Teamspeak 3 is legit, don't install programs or updates or patches, even if the filename seems legit. I got pwned with a Backdoor and a Trojan. Bear with me guys, I just had a close escape, and I thought more people should know about this ploy would be hackers are trying. I was hanging out at the Prifddinas GE, and someone said they were looking for a 10th for their team of 9 to do a raid with. I was very excited to give this new content a go as I've not tried it yet, and always struggle to form a team. They asked if I had TS. I've used it before with clanmates, so I installed it again from the TeamSpeak 3 website and connected to the TS3 server they gave me.

Connecting to a server in a third party client like TS3 instead of a web browser, doensn't make it safe! A pop up appeared asking me to install an update. The guy in game said, `OK I'll wait' or something so I went go ahead and installed the update, as admin. I stupidly assumed TS3 would have safeguards in place to prevent servers hosted on their TLD serving up malware. But I noticed afterwards the payload link was from a different tld (googleusercontent, so in retrospect clearly wasn't legit from TS3). After it ran, the RS client crashed.

Odd I thought, but it happens. I restarted RS and logged in. Luckily my spidey sense was tingling, and I looked in task manager and killed the `updater', which was still running. I couldn't connect back to the original TS3 server, it gave some message about making a new one. The guy in game had by this point disappeared.

His levels are too low to do raids effectively, I should've checked beforehand in my haste to go bossing. His account might have been hacked. This was one of those rare occasions were my normally crippling paranoia paid off. I was freaking out about keyloggers during the reboot so logged on from a second clean machine and quickly changed my password. Luckily I got there first, or killed their RAT.

When my main machine started up, my AV and MSE went crazy, they found the backdoor and trojan but couldn't remove them. Luckily Malwarebytes worked great. Could've been really nasty, there's more at stake than my RS account. I'm a long time maxed player and thought I was reasonably savvy on not getting hacked. I've got JAG, but not authenticator. I can't believe what a sucker I was.

Absolutely basic social engineering tailored towards aspiring bossing players pwned me completely, and I only got away with it (I hope - no log in attempts detected so far from JAG) through dumb luck. Thanks for reading, I'm not sure how much detail to post in order to tip off the bad guys too much, but PM me if you want to compare detailed notes. Just saying to people who will inevitably jump in with something like And that's exactly why I'll never use TeamSpeak! Realize that knowledge and skepticism is more than 95% of the battle with these types of things. They cannot force you to do anything. They cannot make you click on this, allow the download, and infect your computer.

It is 100% on you. Not everyone you come across will be a scumbag like this, and many are completely chill people.

If you want to play with people, but do not want to join their server, it's very simple: Simply join voice.teamspeak.com which is a free server hosted by teamspeak ( officially ). Right-Click - Create Channel and name it something, for example, Safe PvM and add a password, such as verysafepassword Send this information to your team / friends / third cousin, and voila, you can utilize voice chat without ever dealing with foreign servers. TeamSpeak is not the problem here, and if you meet up with chill people ( i.e. People who aren't spending their days attempting to scam people ), voice chat can add a lot to a game like RuneScape, whether that's bankstanding, casual slayer, co-op slayer or intense PvM.

Edit: Also, I'm almost positive you can report the server you joined to TeamSpeak somehow and they will get that taken care of because that's definitely against their ToS. But you're skeptical. If you're paying attention and use common sense, tell me one thing they can do that will infect your machine. Scenario: Invited to a group that requires TS.

Join server, get told to download update, realize that TeamSpeak wouldn't do this because that makes 0.00 sense, back out, report server, move on with life. If you think before you act, check what you're doing and all of that, there's nothing they can do, and therefore it is essentially zero risk. I have no anti-virus on my computer. I have not had a virus, trojan, RAT, keylogger or otherwise - ever. Because I check what I'm doing. These servers are not going to insta-kill you. They are not dangerous, unless you don't know what to look for, but since you've read this thread, you will.

Okay, but my post is directed to the people who just read OP's post, now understand the scam, and might be scared away from TeamSpeak as a whole. I even provided a great workaround by using TeamSpeak's official voice chat server for PvM'ing. I'm not saying everyone should blindly hop on TS, but the people reading this right now should know that TS isn't some place where RS accounts go for the sole purpose of being hacked, abused, raped and slaughtered - it just so happens that these scumbags are out there, but, as my post shows, it is incredibly simple to workaround such attempts.
